The man who kept police at bay for six hours in a Thursday night standoff in Dubois County was found dead in his cell Friday morning.

33-year-old Armando Gutierrez was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:02am Friday after being checked out at the hospital.  On routine rounds, an officer found him unresponsive just before 6-am.  CPR was administered until EMS arrived. Gutierrez was pronounced dead at 8:08-am.

Gutierrez was taken into custody safely according to state police after a standoff that lasted from 4:45 to about 11-pm Thursday.  US Marshals were serving a domestic battery warrant at a Clay Street Jasper home and Gutierrez barricaded himself in a basement with a handgun.   He fire one round during the incident, but police say they believed it was not fired at officers.  Officers used less-lethal weapons to de-escalate the situation and Gutierrez was apprehended and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

His death is still under investigation as toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
