A push to set aside divisive social issues during the legislative session has frustrated some social conservatives who say Republican leaders ignored what their constituents care about.

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma said the session that ended early Saturday was less contentious compared to others in recent years.

Avoiding hot social issues allowed lawmakers to meet their goal of passing a comprehensive funding package for road improvements, but it’s also drawing criticism.

Micah Clark of the American Family Association of Indiana said he understands wanting to take a breather from controversy but worries it will become a habit.

Conservative activist Monica Boyer says she’s “very disappointed” some issues were not addressed this session.

Two of the bills heading to Gov. Eric Holcomb’s desk touch on student religious liberties and abortion.
