State Police caught a home intruder in the act in rural Odon yesterday thanks to quick action by troopers.

At just before 10-am, a 911 call was received by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department where a caller reported a man had entered a home through the basement and a woman and eight children had locked themselves in the bedroom. The call came from 11340 East County Road 1675-North in Odon.
Trooper Gavin Wilson arrived on scene five minutes later and was told by two people outside that the man, later identified as 27-year-old Nicholas A. Whetstine of Newburgh, was in the home. Trooper Wilson approached the front door and Whetstine was walking out of the house. He was ordered at gunpoint to the ground and arrested without incident. The woman and kids were not hurt.

Later police learned that it was the second home on that property that Whetstine had entered that morning.
Whetstine was charged with two counts of Level 6 Felony Residential Entry and for Operating while intoxicated. Police say he had a blood alcohol content of .255%.
