Daviess county residents have started to clean up, fix up and assess the damage caused by the storms Wednesday morning.  There were roofs blown off and damaged in the Montgomery area.  A barn on church parsonage property at the Providence Mennonite Church was destroyed.  J and L Home Center sustained damage. Several grain bins were blown down.  All caused by what’s believed to have been strong straight line winds that came through between 4:45 and 5:15 am.  In Washington there were trees, limbs and lines down and some damage to some homes and property.  The good news, no injuries of any kind were reported in the county.

Winslow Elementary School in southern Pike County is closed today. All other Pike County Schools are in session.  According to the school’s Facebook page, Tuesday night’s storms caused damage to a 110 foot tower next to the elementary school.  The damage was discovered Wednesday morning. The damage was deemed a possible danger to the school so students were moved to the nearby community center for the day.  Officials reported the tower is still a danger so school at Winslow only in Pike County was called off today.
The National Weather Service says it was an EF2 tornado that hit the Ireland area yesterday morning. Winds were at 130 miles an hour at times. There was considerable damage but no injuries.  County officials are holding a meeting today to discuss recovery.  Dubois County has declared a local disaster emergency.
Also a tornado was declared in Lawrence County, Indiana near Mitchell — between Bedford and French Lick — around 5:30 yesterday morning. No one was hurt — but several buildings were damaged or destroyed. That EF-2 tornado had wind gusts up to 135 miles per hour.
Meanwhile, crews worked to determine the strength of a tornado in southwestern Indiana’s Posey County that damaged homes. Officials have said the damage apparently was caused by the same deadly tornado that struck adjacent White County, Illinois, and killed a man.
