Woman pleads in Washington baby abuse case

A Washington woman has pleaded guilty to one count in connection with a July 2015 abuse involving a baby.  The case started July 24, 2015 when personnel at Daviess Community Hospital called the Washington Police Department and the Department of Child Services and reported a 37 day old infant was in the emergency room with severe injuries. The infant was transferred to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where even more injuries were discovered. Candice Freeburn and Mathew Palmer-Coy were arrested in connection with the incident.

Yesterday, in Daviess Superior Court, Freeburn pleaded guilty to one count of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury by leaving the child with Palmer-Coy. The Washington Times Herald says under a plea agreement, nine other counts 19 other counts against Freeburn were dropped.
Sentencing is set for April 13th at 1. She could be sentenced to 10 years in jail. She’s still at the Daviess County Security Center on a half million dollar bond.
Palmer-Coy is also being held on a half million dollar bond. He is scheduled to be in court Monday still charged with 10 counts each of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury and battery to a person under 14.
