Bettye F. Norris, 82, of Loogootee, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Loogootee Nursing Center after a three month battle with COPD and pneumonia.
She was born November 21, 1934 in Shoals, Indiana to the late Raymond and Agnes (Summers) Allegree.
Bettye was a 1952 graduate of Shoals High School and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
She loved watching Fox News, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and The Young and the Restless. She especially enjoyed watching IU Basketball and the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
Bettye worked at the Martin County Highway Department for many years until she was elected as the Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Loogootee, retiring in 2007.
She married Donald Louis Norris on February 12, 1955 and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1995.
Bettye is preceded in death by her husband; parents, Raymond and Agnes (Summers) Allegree.
She is survived by three sons, Rick (Connie) Norris, Mike (Sandy) Norris and Phillip Norris (and fiancé, Karen Wilson), all of Loogootee; daughter, Mary Beth (Doug) Ranard of Dugger; granddaughter, Amy (Ryan) Graber of Montgomery; grandson, Michael Norris of Jasper; great-grandchildren, Taylen, Carson and Keely Graber of Montgomery; brother, Richard Allegree of Columbus and several nieces and nephews; her Persian cats, JayJay and Gizmo.
Bettye was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
