Mary Ellen (Thompson) Ledgerwood, 90, of Loogootee, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 12, 1926 in Daviess County, Indiana to the late Ralph C. and Flossie (Winklepleck) Thompson.
Mary graduated from Odon High School in 1945. While living in Odon, she was a member of the Odon Evangelical United Brethren Church where she served as Sunday School secretary for many years. Prior to leaving the Odon community in 1965 when she got married, she worked for the Odon Journal.
She married Vance C. Ledgerwood on April 11, 1965. He passed away on February 13, 2009.
Mary was a 50 year member of the Odon Eastern Star Chapter #341 and a charter member and 50 year plus member of the Odon Rebekah Lodge #319.
She was a member of the Loogootee United Methodist Church after she got married. She taught Sunday School and worked with Vacation Bible School for over 16 years. She and Vance were the financial secretaries at the church from January 1991 until July 2007. She was active as a 4-H leader and with the Boy Scout program. Since 1985, she has been a news correspondent for the Dubois County Herald.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vance C. Ledgerwood; parents, Ralph C. and Flossie (Winklepleck) Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Craig (Tisa) Ledgerwood of Coppell, Texas and Janet (Tom) Duex of Spring Grove, Illinois; three grandchildren, Tommy, Emily, and Timmy Duex; three step-grandchildren, Eddie, Evan, and Eric Provencio; brother, Jim Thompson of Odon; brother-in-law, Terry (Dianna) Ledgerwood of Columbia, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Loogootee United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Goodwill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time at the church.
