We learned earlier this fall that The Daviess and Martin County Relay for Life events have combined their forces to become the Daviess/Martin Relay for Life to be held in June. The two counties merged their efforts in the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Even though the event is not until close to summer next year, kick off events are being held in both counties this Saturday.

Doors open at 1:30, the pageant is at 3. There’ll be floating and traditional luminaries for sale for $20 and $10 each respectively.
In Martin County on Saturday the , Martin County’s Lifesavers Relay for Life team will host Cooking for a Cure, a chili cook-off and tasting event at the Loogootee VFW. It all starts at 5 with an entry fee of 15$ and tasting tickets are $5.
