PACE seeking a grant to locate property for a center

PACE is looking to expand and improve  its services in the Washington.

PACE is a Community Action Agency that serves several counties with a mission to provide support services to improve their communities and encourage self reliance.  They also operate the head start facilities in the region.

They are seeking  a grant for  a feasibility study for a Community and Child Development Center.  CEO of PACE, Beth Proctor, say the Center would help to expand the head start school day.

They currently serve kids at the classrooms on Cosby Road and other classes at the Washington “Y” and at North Daviess.

Proctor says the Center would also be a central office for other services…

The grant being sought is for $20,000 with a local match of $2225 to be paid for by PACE.  No city money is being used or sought.  The city has to apply for the grant on behalf of PACE since the non-profit cannot by law submit the request.  The grant would pay for a study to provide potential site locations for a center and make recommendations on its size, location and amenities.  Southern Indiana Development Corporation is administering the grant application.  Last night at a public hearing on the application, the city council agreed to submit the request on behalf of PACE.
