Daviess County Commissioners Approve Polling Locations

vote-4

Most Daviess County voters will cast their votes in their usual locations.

The Daviess County Commissioners approved polling locations at Tuesday’s meeting and 25 of the County’s 28 precincts will vote in their usual locations.  But voters in three precincts will see their polls moved to a new location.   Washington precincts 5 and 6, will vote at the National Guard Armory, and Barr 1 will vote at the Ruritan Community Building.

The Commissioners also approved funds for fire monitors at the Courthouse and for repairs at the Old County Highway Garage.

County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius told the Commissioners that due to the amount of rain this year the Highway Department was running low on stone for road upkeep and repair.  Additional stone will be purchased using the Rainy Day Fund.   Cornelius also presented a claim for an IDEM air permit needed to put the County’s asphalt plant into operation.   The Commissioners also signed a local road and bridge matching grant contract with INDOT as part of the Community Crossings program.

County Engineer Jason Heile reported that an agreement on the 15th Street Bridge project had been received from CSX Railroad.   Heile reminded Washington residents that a public information meeting is schedule for the Kiwanis Cabin on October 18.

In other business the Commissioners approved items on the claims docket, including two claims from the Economic Development Corporation and Foundation that had been tabled for more information at the last meeting.

The Commissioners next meeting will be 6 pm, October 11, at the Alfordsville United Methodist Church.
