Iona C. Potts, 97, of Washington, was called home at the end of a nice sunny day on Thursday.


Iona was born July 6, 1919, in Martin County, to the late Millard and Iva (Chattin) Collins. Iona married Orris Potts on Feb. 4, 1939, in Montgomery. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1996. Iona was the last in the family of 10 siblings. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Blanch Arvin; eight brothers, Victor, Carl, Oral, Claude, Martin, Earl, and infant Charles; a nephew, Denver Arvin; a great-niece, Kim Rogers Loyd; and a great-nephew, Jim Collins.
Iona was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was the oldest member of Truelove United Methodist Church of Alfordsville.
Iona is survived by two nieces, Wanda Lents and Susie Rogers; good friends, Joe and Lois Schnarr, LuAnn Hubbard and Joyce Field; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gill Funeral Home, with Pastor Marvin Arvin officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Reeve Township. Memorial contributions can be made to Truelove United Methodist Church in memory of Iona.
