Daviess County Commissioners Heard Several Reports at Tuesday’s Meeting

The Daviess County Commissioners spent most of Tuesday’s meeting hearing various reports.   Representatives of Umbaugh and Associates discussed the steps the County needs to take to meet the requirements of Indiana’s new internal controls law.    As part of the mandate, the Commissioners passed an ordinance establishing a fixed asset capitalization policy.  Also, all Daviess County department heads, elected officials, and all employees handling money will need to go through a training program.   The State Board of Accounts will also receive on-going documentation to show that monitoring of compliance is taking place.

In other business, the Commissioners approved the Health Department’s request for a lease agreement to upgrade credit card chip readers at the cost of $29.98 per month, and change orders on the court house ADA project.
The Commissioners also approved a preliminary engineering agreement with CSX Railroad for the 15th Street Bridge project at the cost of $10,450.   The agreement keeps the project on track.    Also, Heile and County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius presented the Commissioners an IDEM letter of concurrence.  Cornelius said the letter sent because of damage done to CR 125 E due to the road acting as an unofficial detour during the closure of SR 257.
Heile and Cornelius added in their regular report that two county road projects were waiting on the receipt of state Community Crossings grants.
