Washington City Council met Monday

Council discusses naming something after Lt. General Anthony Jones and a water rate increase for residents outside the city.

(DLC Media) During the public comment part of Monday’s Washington City Council meeting, Mike McKittrick asked the Council to consider naming a street, or perhaps the planned 15th Street bridge after Lt. General Anthony Jones.  Lt.  Gen. Jones, the highest ranking Washington native in history, is a member of the Army Aviation Hall of Fame.  McKittrick outlined Jones’s distinguished service to the nation.  Councilman Blake Chambers proposed that McKittrick’s suggestion be sent to the Board of Works with a strong suggestion that the planned bridge be named in honor of Jones.

The  Washington City Council spent part of their meeting last night considering water rates.  The City’s financial adviser, Umbaugh and Associates proposed rate increases for water customers outside the city limits. The  proposed rate increase would be in the area of 14.8%.  A public hearing is set for August 8th.   In addtion,  two other ordinances to establish funds to receive state grant money for streets and bridges were also introduced.  And on final reading the Council approved the rezoning of property on the corner of West Walnut from residential to commercial.
