Washington Schools get a grant to help with increasing graduation rates

Assistant Superintendent Kevin Frank told the Washington School Board last night that Washington had received the Regional Opportunity Initiative grant.

The initiative is aimed at improving graduation rates and increasing the number of students pursuing post-secondary education.  The two-year grant will provide funding for a counselor focused on at-risk students, with a goal to make them career ready on graduation.  Frank said the selection committee was impressed with Washington’s co-operation with VU and the early college initiative, as well as innovative programs like CEO.

In personnel actions, the Board approved the extension of Dr. Dan Roach’s contract as Superintendent. The terms were the same as advertised in the public hearing held last month.  The Board also approved hiring Cassidy Young, Addison Stoll, Kelley Hessler, and Audrey Lashbrook as teachers in the junior high.  Josh Adams will be the new High School Ag teacher, and Brandon Hagen will take over the band.  Kelly Durnil and Laura Carruth were hired as secretaries.
