Gordon Lee Johnson, 89 of West Baden passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 2, 2016.

Gordon was born in Shoals to the late Carl H. Johnson and Margaret (Tedrow) Johnson.  Gordon attended Shoals schools and was wed to the late Irene (Novak) Johnson.  At a young age Gordon entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for a four year term; during this time he was awarded a WWII Victory Ribbon and an American Area Ribbon.  Upon returning home to Shoals Gordon found employment at National Gypsum, which is where he retired from.

In Gordon’s later years he met Erma Dillard, who became his best friend and soul-mate.  Gordon enjoyed having family get-togethers and everyone having fun.  Gordon was a coon-hunter, rabbit hunter, fisherman, and an all-round outdoorsman.  He was a lifetime member of the Shoals Legion.  Gordon had many great accomplishments but he lived for his family and always put them first.

Gordon is survived by three loving daughters, Trudy Huddleston (Jack) of Ohio, Charlene Sims (Stanley) of Shoals, and Cheryl Dickey (Eric) of West Baden; one son-in-law, Thomas W.Gerkin; a step-son, Russell Dillard (Lauren Pham) of Mexico; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Thompson of Plainfield, and Phyllis Penn of Ft. Wayne.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Irene Novak Johnson; soul-mate, Erma Dillard; two daughters, Barbara Johnson-Larrabee, and Judith Gerkin; a grandson, Chad Bauer; three sisters; and three brothers.

Services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 1pm at the Shoals Christian Church 602 Main St. Shoals, IN 47581.  With visitation from 10am until time of service. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery at a later date.
