Single Vehicle Crash on SR 56 Claims Life of Petersburg Woman

89 year old Carolyn Bennett died from injuries in a Monday morning accident.

 

A one vehicle crash in Pike County claimed the life of 89-year-old Carolyn Bennett of Petersburg yesterday.  Mrs. Bennett was a passenger in a car driven by 54-year-old Sharon L. Cannon of Petersburg at 8:20-am Monday.  The 1996 Chevy was east on State Road 56 approaching County Road 1100-east.  For unknown reasons, Cannon’s vehicle left the roadway on the right side, entered the ditch and struck an embankment. Cannon was not injured. Her two passengers, Edward Bennett, 93, and Carolyn Bennett, 89, both from Petersburg, were taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where Mrs. Bennett died from her injuries. Pastor Edward Bennett is currently being treated for a head injury. The vehicle was totaled. Seat belt usage is unknown at this time.
