The Daviess County Commissioners Met This Morning…

At Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Daviess County Commissioners received notification that $437,600 in grant money had been released for the ADA compliance project at the Courthouse.  The funds come from an 80-20 grant the County is using to meet State and Federally mandated upgrades at the historic 90 year old Courthouse to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The low bidder, Building Associates was awarded the contract and given direction to proceed with the project.

The Commissioners also accepted a recommendation from the County Advisory Plan Commission amending the County’s Comprehensive Plan along the I-69 corridor.   County Engineer Jason Heile (high-lee) told the Commissioners the Plan was updated with an eye to future in the area.

In other business the Commissioners approved letting the Daviess County Historical Society store items in the Old National Bank building on Main Street in Washington, until Oct.1.  The County Museum is being remodeled and storage space is needed while display rooms at the a Museum are being renovated.

The County Engineer, and County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius reported on the progress of work on the Prairie Creek Bridge on CR 900 E.   Work should begin on the bridges deck next week.   Heile said the Bridge should reopen to traffic in early June.   Cornelius told the Commissioners that the deadline to apply for state and federal grants was near.  The Commissioners agreed to gather information on potential upgrades over the next five years to ready an application.

The Commissioners also received notification that the State had reimbursed the County $20,000 of the County Engineers salary for work on road projects.
