It turns out a cold snap earlier this month did little damage to Indiana’s winter crops.

Between April 2nd and the 12th, overnight temperatures were below freezing statewide leading to fears of crop loss particularly in Southern Indiana. However, Purdue Extension says the recent warming trend has saved most of the state’s winter wheat, forage and fruit crops. The only report of any damage was some minor freeze burn.

State climatologists say temperatures have been at or above seasonal averages over the last week and a half. The warmup is expected to provide good conditions just in time for planting season..
