Janet Lee (Martin) Wininger, 90, formerly of rural Montgomery, died Wednesday in Washington. Janet was born May 4, 1925, to Charles and Belva (Fields) Martin in Bedford. On her birthday in 1943 she married Ralph Wininger. They were the parents of two sons, Alan Kent (Jean) Wininger and Terry (Jan) Wininger, both of Washington. Also surviving are five grandchildren whom she adored, and they adored her: Rodney (Anne) Wininger and Bryce Wininger, Erin (Aaron) Purdue, Casey (Mike) Blake and Megan (Matt) Owens. Great-grandchildren Maddie, Annie and Sara Purdue, Millie, Mick and Tommy Blake, and Jenna and Ben Owens will miss Grandma’s hugs. Also surviving is a brother, George Martin of Union, Michigan.
Welcoming her to her heavenly home is her husband of 68 years, Ralph; a grandson, Evan, who loved her dearly; and a brother Duane Martin.
Loved ones will forever remember Grandma for her Sunday dinners, her homemade noodles at family pitch-ins, her huge heart at Christmas and many happy times at the farm. She is still fondly remembered as “Big Grandma” to some of the grandchildren and many of their friends. The family would like to thank the dear neighbors and friends who loved her.
The funeral service for Janet will be held at noon Saturday at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut St., Washington, IN 47501, with Rev. Alfred Helms officiating. Interment will follow the service at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, also at Gill Funeral Home. In honor of her generous nature and never letting anyone leave her house hungry, the family requests expressions of sympathy to Feed My Sheep in lieu of flowers.
