Christena Vian Jones, 97, of Hudsonville, passed away Sunday at Daviess Community Hospital. She was born in Hudsonville on Sept. 24, 1918, to Andrew and Dessie (Webber) Himsel. In 1936, Christena graduated from Glendale High School. On Feb.18, 1939, she married Paul E. Jones. She was a member of Hudsonville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a delegate for the United Methodist Church Conference. She was a member of Omega Alpha Chi Sorority, Jolly Co-Workers Home Economics Club, Garden Club, and was on the Harrison Township Advisory Board. Christena sold Avon for over 57 years where she was a member of the President’s Club. She enjoyed showing off pictures of her great-grandchildren and watching them put on annual Christmas programs for the family. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible and daily devotions, and also enjoyed find-a-word puzzles.
Christena is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Janet E. Hornaday of Montgomery, and Kay and Paul Michael of Hudsonville; five grandchildren, Darin Hornaday of Montgomery, Sarah Hornaday of Montgomery, Kristy (Eric) Miller of Evansville, Ryan (Becky) Michael of Hudsonville, Wes (Chelsea) Michael of Washington; and blessed with four great-grandchildren Erica Miller, Kate Miller, Adelynn Michael and Landon Michael, and another great- granddaughter on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Dessie (Webber) Himsel; husband Paul E. Jones; sister and brother-in-law Vonlue and John Barber; and son-in-law, Clarence Hornaday.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut St., Washington, IN 47501, with Rev. Dean Stuckey and Pastor Clarence Miller officiating. Interment will follow at New Veale Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gill Funeral Home and also prior to the service Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Online condolences may be made to www.gillsince1872.com.
