Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz being remembered and honored

Daviess County Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit says some members of his department will be attending the funeral of Howard County, Indiana Deputy Carl Koontz.

Koontz died Sunday after he and another deputy were shot while serving what could be described as a routine warrant service at a home in Howard County.  The suspect then shot apparently shot himself after firing on the officers.

Harbstreit told the Washington Times Herald that he knows Howard County Sheriff Steve Rogers very well and thinks that one deputy from our county graduated from the law enforcement academy with Koontz.  Deputy Koontz leaves behind a wife and young child.

Flag across the state have been ordered to fly at half staff until the evening after Koontz’s funeral.
