Washington gets 75K grant for the 1:1 Program

A $75,000 Digital Learning Grant was the main topic of discussion at Thursday’s meeting of the Washington Community School Board.

Candice Dodson of the Indiana Department of Education said Washington’s presented evidence of strong leadership, a focused vision for digital learning, and a sound plan for implementation, along with the resources necessary to implement the program.

Assistant Superintendent Kevin Frank said while initial focus of the grant would be implementing the 1:1 Program in the junior high next year,  there are long range plans of expanding one-to-one digital learning into Washington High School and the elementary schools.

In other business, the Board relieved notice that three veteran staff members would retire at the end of the year. They include: elementary teacher Melba Spivey (spy-vee), and Washington High School secretaries Delora Lamb and Holly Payton.  The Board also accepted the resignation of Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Stacy Bryant.  Medical leaves were granted to faculty members Lisha Portee and Juana Santos.

Also last night, the board approved travel requests for the WHS Beta Club, Advanced Choir and Jazz Band, and NJROTC.  Also it was announced that Kindergarten Round-up is scheduled for April 5-8.
