Group accuses IU of mishandling sexual assault case

IU faces yet another sexual assault complaint. The advocacy group End Rape on Campus says the complaint was filed by Hailey Rial, a freshman at IU-Bloomington. It stems from the recent resignation of Jason Casares. He is the former director of student ethics who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a conference in Texas last year. Rial’s case was tossed out by university investigators, including Casares, who found that the man she had accused of assault was not responsbile. Rial, the complaint says, sought an appeal after learning of the accusations against Casares, but IU said it would not review the case because Rial missed a deadline for an appeal.
