At Wednesday’s meeting, the Daviess County Council approved Daviess County Prosecutor Dan Murrie’s request to add a second state-funded investigator for Adult Protective Services. Murrie said the new position would be completely funded by the State and no local tax money would be used. Murrie said the State funding is currently for one year, and if the State does not renew the funds, he will not ask the county to renew the investigator position. Murrie said a second investigator would be “a total benefit to the County”.
In other business, Emergency Management Director Paul Goss and County Commissioner Nathan Gabhart presented the Council with proposals to use E-9-1-1 funds to purchase compatible communications systems for all the county fire departments. Currently not all the communication equipment used by the county’s fire departments are compatible. This creates problems when multiple departments are called to a fire or emergency situation. The Council gave goes approval to have the departments to begin the upgrade. The Council also asked Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit to look into the compatibility of the county’s police departments and the fire departments.
