Local, state and regional leaders, school officials and more gathered at the Westgate Academy yesterday to talk about 11 Southwest Central Indiana counties and the development that can and will take place after 42 million dollars in grants from the Lilly Endowment were handed out late last year.

The Washington Times Herald    http://www.washtimesherald.com/   says Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen and Washington counties will all see benefits from the money that will fund everything from research and development, workforce and education initiatives, and other projects that enhance the quality of life for those living in the 11-county region.
The paper says one of those initiatives is an  an education and workforce plan  funded by an over 25 million grant to Regional Opportunity Initiatives, Inc., or ROI, a newly formed nonprofit that will make its mission supporting regional development in the 11 counties.
An Applied Research Institute that will be located near Crane is also in the plans. The institute would have its startup expenses funded through a $16 million grant to Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation  With the help of the institute, more than $400 million worth of state-of-the-art labs and equipment at Crane and $25 million in existing labs and facilities at the Battery Innovation Center and WestGate will be leveraged.
