Dr. Keller to retire from Loogootee

Loogootee School Superintendent Dr. Joan Keller announced her retirement last night.

The Washington Times Herald quoted Keller as saying he’s over old enough to step down from her 43 years in public education as a teacher and administrator.

Keller has been with Loogootee since the summer of 2014.  Her retirement will be affective July 1st this year.

The newspaper reports she taught in Shoals for 23 years starting in 1973.  In ’96 she became principal at Switzerland County High School for four years and then was at North Knox as principal for a year.  She then went back to Shoals and served as the Elementary School Principal there.

Her first superintendent’s position was at North Knox in 2004.  A year later she moved to Spencer County and served as Superintendent there for five years.  She then served as an interim Superintendent in Pike County after that.

Keller as the focus of state headline news last year when she requested her salary to be cut by 25% over two years.
