Cecil Bateman

 

Cecil Bateman, 98, of Washington, In passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016. He was born in Martin County on November 21, 1917 to Willis C. Bateman and Goldie J. Bateman (Freeman). He attended Martin and Daviess County Schools. He married Ruth B.Bateman (Hinkle) on March 24, 1940 and they were prominent farmers in Washington for over 60 years before they retired. Cecil and Ruth were married for 75 years this year, and traveled to every state together except for Alaska.  Cecil was a member of the Bethel(Otterbein) United Methodist Church, he was a trustee, an administrative, and helped teach the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bateman, his daughter Betty Schlotter, his sons; Reldon E. Bateman, and C. Leroy Bateman, his grandsons; Rex Bateman, Chad and Jennifer Schlotter, his granddaughters; Leni  and Tracy Walls, Dee and Steve McKenzie, Diane Boger, Julie Seal, Darla and Mike Burgoyne, Polly and Steve Bullock, Mandy and Carl Boyles, and Tammy and Jason Brown, Twenty Great-Grandchildren, Nineteen Great-Great Grandchildren, and Four Great- Great- Great Grandchildren, and his brother Virgil Bateman.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Willis and Goldie, his sisters; Alta Toon, Grace Tatum, and Lucille Bateman, and his brothers; Marion Dale, Rollie Bateman, Amos Bateman, Ernest Bateman, Roy Bateman  and Oscar Bateman.

Visitation will be held at Gill Funeral Home on Saturday February 20, 2016 from 11:00 am til 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service starting at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Mowery officiating.
