Tuesday debate will focus on guns on college campuses

Vincennes University will host a debate tomorrow (Tuesday) on whether or not faculty members should be allowed to carry firearms on campuses. Currently most college campuses, including VU, have policies prohibiting any firearms on campus outside of campus police departments.

Lou Caprino, chairman of VU’s Homeland Security program, and William Gollmitzer, professor of Law Enforcement at VU will take the side that firearms should be allowed.

Opposing the proposition of faculty carrying firearms on campus are Gary May and Dr. Todd Schroer from the University of Southern Indiana. VU’s Center for Research and Learning is sponsoring the debate in light of recent shooting sprees that have occured across the United States.

The debate will be held in the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center starting at 11 am Tuesday and will be live-streamed by WVUT-TV. The event is open to the public.
