Local ballot set for May Primay

Noon yesterday was the deadline for candidates to file in this year’s May Primary Election.

There will be some contested races on the Republican ballot locally.

Republican voters will choose their candidate for County Commissioner District 1.  Last year, Dan Jones was appointed to the position after longtime Commissioner Tony Wichman stepped out for professional and family reasons.  Jones will be challenged by the Daviess County Highway Department’s Tom McCracken.  Meanwhile there will be four Republicans running for three At Large County Council seats.  All of the incumbents, Mike Sprinkle, Jo Ann McCracken and Jo Arthur are running again.  The other candidate is Kent Norris of RTC Communications.  The top three vote getters will be on the November Ballot.  The other Republican Candidates, County Commissioner District 3 Michael Taylor, County Recorder Jamie Chapman, Treasurer Elaine Wellman  and Dr. Stephen Cullen for Coroner are all unopposed.

On the Democrat side, as we reported earlier this week, six candidates have filed.  Travis Linnewebber, Mike Potts and Ron Critchlow for County Council, Mark Smith for District One Commissioners, Bill Harder for Treasurer and Rachel Sellers for Recorder.
