Mike Axsom to be laid to rest on Friday

Funeral services have been announced for West Boggs Park Superintendent Mike Axsom who died on Sunday.

The services are Friday at 11-am at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.  Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home.

Axsom served over 21 years as the superintendent of the park.  The Park’s Facebook page says that Axsom and his staff facilitated efforts to clean up West Boggs Lake and provided recreational services to visitors from around the Midwest.  The post went on to call Axsom a community leader, mentor and friend.

Axsom graduated from High School in Bloomington in 1970.  He started his career with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and served as an as assistant state fire coordinator, and was a member of the IDNR Hot Shots. During that time he also served as arson investigator for the Eastern Fire Department in Solsberry. He was the CEO for the Wyoming Outfitters Association and he served as the editor/publisher of the Wyoming Outdoorsman Magazine.  He was also a member of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
