Michael Taylor remains President of the Commissioners

At their first meeting of the new year, The Daviess County Commissioners on Tuesday voted to keep their current officers with Michael Taylor elected President, Nathan Gabhart as Vice-President, and Dan Jones Secretary.   They reappointed Grant Swartzentruber as county attorney, Phil Cornelius as Highway Department Supervisor, Jason Heile as County Engineer, and Scott Schnarr as Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor.  The Commissioners also appointed Debbie Swartzentruber to the Regional Mental Health Advisory Board and approved the county investment policy presented by County Treasurer Elaine Wellman.   The commissioners also heard a report from County Weights and Measure inspector David Gray.  The position was mandated by the State, and Gray noted that several small businesses are not aware that their scales need to be inspected.  Gray noted that he inspects all scales and gas pumps used for business.

Also at the meeting, a  proposal for planning bike trails in the county was presented. A matching grant is available for planning, but the deadline is April 29.  Daviess County Economic Development Director Ron Arnold said that quality of life improvements like bike trails help attract and retain young professionals and businesses.  Arnold said he would approach his Board to see if the Daviess County Economic Development Commision would cover the match for the grant.  The Commissioners agreed to proceed with the application if the DCEDC would fund the match.
