Details on Sunday’s murder in Dubois County have been released

More details on Sunday’s stabbing death and hostage crisis in Dubois County were released yesterdays afternoon.

Sunday at 2:40-am, authorities responded to a report of an intruder on Dubois County 50-west in Ferdinand.  Three hours later police made entry to the home where they found 37-year-old Jefferey Perry dead from multiple stab wounds.  Two unnamed females were also in the home, injured and treated and released.  25-year-old Kyle Popplewell was arrested for murder, rape, criminal confinement and other charges.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says Popplewell entered the home through a back door uninvited. Perry was lying on the couch and the two women were sleeping in other parts of the home.  One woman, identified as Perry’s girlfriend woke up to sounds of screaming from the living room where she says she saw Popplewell on top of Perry.  She called for the other woman to call 911 and attempted to get Popplewell away from Perry.  Popplewell swung at the woman and she was suffered a cut to the chest.

The other female tried to go to her bedroom when Popplewell went inside the room as well.  The girlfriend was then able to call 911 and later discovered Perry was dead

While Popplewell was in the bedroom with the woman, who reports say has a father/daughter relationship with the stabbing victim.  Popplewell  made her put mattresses in front of the window and a dresser in front of the door.  The woman was raped several times during a three hour hostage negotiation.  Police entered the home at 5:40-am and tazed Popplewell as he came out of the bedroom. He was arrested and taken to jail.  He did appear in court yesterday afternoon.
