Dubois County man charged with murder after hostage incident

One person died in a hostage standoff in Dubois County over the weekend.

Authorities responded to a report of an intruder on Dubois County Road 50-west near St. Henry at 2:40-am on Sunday.

State Police negotiators and raid entry teams went to the scene along with police from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Ferdinand, Jasper and Huntingburg.

Entry was made into the home at 5:40-am where 37-year-old Jefferey D. Perry of Ferdinand was found dead from multiple stab wounds.  25-year-old Kyle N. Popplewell  of Ferdinand was arrested for murder as well as burglary, battery with serious bodily injury, criminal confinement and two counts of rape.  Two females were taken to the hospital and treated and released.

Investigators say more information will be released later.
