Bill Eaton, 83, of Washington

Bill Eaton, 83 of Washington passed away on December 26, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born to the late Edgar and Mary (Webber) Eaton in Daviess County on November 11, 1932.

He graduated Plainville High School in 1950 and then worked at Eaton-Bowman Standard Service until April of 1952 when he enlisted in the United States Marines during the Korean War and served for 3 years. Bill married Marjorie Sue (Nowling) Eaton, December 29, 1952 and they were blessed with 56 years together before her passing on December 11, 2008.

After returning home, Bill owned and operated a milk route until 1962 and then become the asst. manager at the Rogers Red & White until 1969. Afterwards, he was the manager at Williams Drug Store until 1984. For a short time Bill was general manager of G. Quick Oil until 1986, but then returned to Williams Pharmacy until 1990.

Bill served 2 four year terms as the Daviess County Auditor until 1998 and then was employed at the Daviess County Landfill until his retirement in 2007.

Bill was a member of the Plainville Christian Church of Plainville, V.F.W., a 50 member of the Plainville Masonic Lodge, and also the American Legion. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1080, being elected as the Governor four times and has previously held every office there.

He was an avid sports fan, loving I.U. basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, and the New York Yankees.

Bill is survived by his four adoring daughters, Connie Burger (Kevin) of Jasper, Ginny Cornelius (Mark) of Elnora, Cindy Swartzentruber (Bill) of Odon, and Libby Robinson of Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Tesla Burger, Mandy Britton, Matt Cornelius, April Brown, Jesse Swartzentruber, Brandi Strange, Derek Strange, Colton Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Max Eaton, Gene Eaton, and Darrell Eaton; one sister, Olive Lawyer.

Also preceding Bill in death was a brother, Norman Eaton.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut St. 47501. A funeral service conducted by Brother Steve Dayton on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. also at Gill Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Bill will be laid to rest in Plainville Cemetery where there will be Military Graveside Honors by the American Legion and the V.F.W.
