The annual Cops and Kids event in Washington is next Thursday.  The local fraternal order of police and law enforcement agencies across the region take area head start kids shopping at the Washington Wal Mart for needed clothing as well as some toys.
Steve Riney has been heading up the effort for many years, he says man children are a part of the event.

Mike Heshelman with the Fraternal Order of Police says it’s not only cops that do the shopping.

Donations continue to be accepted.  You can drop off donations at the Washington, Odon and Loogootee Police Departments and the Daviess and Martin County Sheriff’s Departments.  You can also mail Riney your donations.
After the shopping the local McDonalds and Subway provide lunch for the kids and there’s a visit with Santa.  Officials hope to spend 125 dollars per child.  22,000 dollars was raised last year and all of it was used.
