Washington Fire Injures Six People. Update.

A fire at 1215 West Walnut Street in Washington early Friday morning has injured six people.

12 off duty firefighters along with five on duty fireman were on scene until around 8:30am.  According to reports from The Washington Times Herald and Washington Fire Department Chief Dave Rhoads, the two story house had been divided into two apartments, one upstairs and one downstairs.  The three upstairs residents had to be rescued from the front porch and were transported to Daviess Community Hospital for smoke inhalation.  The downstairs apartment was occupied by one adult and three children and they were all able to get out safely.  Washington City patrolman Case Cummings was also treated for smoke inhalation after being one of the first on the scene and going to the upstairs apartments to wake the residents.   Police officer Derrick Devine was also involved in waking up residents  and helping to get them out of the house.

The building is owned by Jim Taylor.

The fire is still being investigated by the Washington Fire Department and The Indiana State Fire Marshall’s office.
