State Senator Eric Bassler attending State Legislature Assembly in Utah

Republican State Senator Eric Bassler of Washington is attending the   Assembly of State Legislatures meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah this week.
It’s a bipartisan group of state lawmakers from across the country working to establish the rules and procedures needed to conduct a state-led convention for proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Bassler says the authors of our Constitution clearly intended for states to be able to hold the federal government accountable by giving them authority to propose Constitutional amendments. He called the assembly in Utah an an important effort for the health of theConstitutional system of government.”

The group has met four times over the last two years. At this gathering which lasts through tomorrow,  participants hope to hold a final vote on the proposed rules.
