James Oren Sims

James Oren Sims, 86, passed away Nov. 10, 2015 in Pike County. He was born to George and Emma (Songer) Sims of Sep. 22, 1929. He married Dixie Blaize May 9, 1953. He was preceded in death by wife Dixie who passed away June of this year. A grandson, a great granddaughter and a great grandson. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1947 and served in the US Army during the post War occupation of Germany from 1951 -1953. He was a third generation owner of Sims Construction, worked for Dayco Fertilize Co. and Jasper Plant Food in the 1980s. He was appointed Pike Co. Building Inspector in 1990 and still worked in that capacity at his death.
He is survived by daughter Renee and Don Armstrong and son Tony and Lisa Sims. He is also survived by grandchildren, Nick (Cindy) Armstrong, Todd (Kayla) Sims, Ashley Sims, great grandchildren, Kaydee Sims, Lucas Armstrong and sister Judy Chamberlain.
James Had a great love for traveling. He and his wife rode over 200,000 miles together on a Goldwing motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He served as an Elder at Brenton Chapel Church of Christ for many years.
Visitation will be November 13, from 3-8 PM EST at Harris Funeral home in Petersburg with service at Brenton Chapel Church November 14 at 11 AM with Bro. Ray Nelson Officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
