Commissioners meet with a full board for the first time in two months

Daviess County Commissioners President Michael Taylor opened Monday’s meeting by welcoming new commissioner Dan Jones to the Board of Commissioners.  Then, with a full board for the first time in two months, the commissioner began a marathon two and a half hour meeting.   Jones was appointed as the commissioner representative on the Bennington Levee Board and the Homeland Security Council.  In another appointment, Commissioner Nathan Gabhart was appointed to the Child Protective Services Council.

The Commissioners then approved  a contract with the Southern Indiana Development Commission for ADA grant administration services. They also approved a covenant in regard to the stained glass courthouse skylight, and approved a contract with RQAW.  All the actions are part of the courthouse renovation project.

The Commissioners approved two interlocal agreements with the City of Washington, one for maintenance of storm warning sirens in the city, and the other for rebuilding the 15th Street overhead bridge.  County Engineer Jason Heile (high-lee) will be the project engineer.  By state law the city and county will split the costs of the project after third party funding is exhausted.

County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius reported on the speed survey on CR 200 N between CR 575 and CR 650.  Based on the results of the study the County Engineer recommended  40 mph speed limit in the area.  The Commissioners directed the county attorney to prepare an ordinance.
