City Council discussed several issues

Washington’s City Council passed the 2016 budget. The budget ordinance was up for approval after a public hearing and discussion at the Council meeting two weeks ago.  With Councilman Jim Greene absent, the budget passed last night 6-0.

The Council also heard the introduction of an ordinance rezoning property on the southeast corner of Memorial Ave. and 15th Street.   Tom Schroeder (pronounced Shro-der), who represented the owner; said plans were to build a six unit apartment building on the lots.  Schroeder said the apartment building would replace dilapidated houses currently on the lots.  The final vote will be taken on the ordinance at the next Council meeting.

The council also approved an agreement with the county regarding the reconstruction of the overhead bridge on East 15th Street. Mayor Joe Wellman comments….

In other business, City Attorney Tim Dant pointed out some inconsistencies in the City’s itinerant merchant ordinance.  After discussing the issue, the Council agreed to have Dant examine ways to improve the ordinance.
