Long-time County Commissioner Tony Wichman, who resigned as of September 1st, was honored at Monday morning’s meeting of the Daviess County Commissioners.

In presenting Wichman with a plaque, President of the Board of Commissioners, Michael Taylor, praised Wichman’s long and dedicated service to the citizens of Daviess County.

Wichman’s resignation leaves only Taylor and Commissioner Nathan Gabhart to conduct business until Wichman’s replacement is selected.   Gabhart was selected to fill Wichman’s position as the Commissioner’s vice-president.  Gabhart was also appointed to be the Commissioners’ representative for Child Protective Services.   Consideration of four other vacancies was tabled until Wichman’s replacement is selected.

The Daviess County Commissioners on Monday approved a contract for a grant for $50,000 to repair the stained glass skylight in the courthouse.

Commissioner Michael Taylor noted that the skylight has to be repaired and the Commissioners are limited in what they can do by the DNR.

The Commissioners also approved an application of a pass-through Emergency Management grant, at no cost to the county.

The Commissioners also approved an application from Solar Sources to extend the closure of County Road 700 E for a period of three years, with the possibility of an extension at the end of the period.
