You know summer is over when AAA chats up Labor Day travel.

Hoosier Motor Club Spokesman Greg Seiter says gas prices for Labor Day weekend will be the lowest in a decade. This comes as 35.5 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles during the period of September 3rd through Sept 7th.

That’s the highest travel since Labor Day weekend 2008. Seiter says the national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is hovering around $2.47 a gallon. That’s almost $1.00 cheaper than this time last year.

More folks will be traveling by car this weekend. On the downside for travelers, AAA says costs for their member hotels have risen about 10% this year.
