Residents of Plainville may soon be getting new rural mail delivery. The Washington Times Herald is reporting today that the new delivery solution was confirmed Thursday by  Mary Dando, a spokeswoman of the U.S. Postal Service.

A storm severely damaged the town’s post office on June 16th.  The building had to be closed and tape still surrounds it.  Since then, Plainville residents have had to drive to Washington’s Post Office to get their mail.

Dando said the postal service will be providing Plainville with rural delivery, sometimes referred to as street delivery.  She said it’s an emergency solution for the time being.

The newspaper said that postal workers want to reopen the Plainville Post Office but that’s up to the owner of the building. Dando said the owner has chosen not to repair the building for quote “whatever reason.”

A date for the new delivery service has not been set.  Until then, Plainville residents will continue to go to Washington to get their mail.
