Local creeks receive grant money for watershed treatment

Veale, Aikman and Hawkins Creek in Daviess County will see a small portion of new grants for the care of Indiana’s water bodies.

The total grants amount to nearly 1.3 million dollars across the state to fund 33 projects in 26 counties.  The money comes from DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife Lake and River Enhancement Project.

Daviess County will get $30,000 for watershed land treatment for Veale, Aikman and Hawkins Creeks.  The action is meant to reduce sediment and nutrient runoff.

Other waterways receiving funds were Lake Sullivan in Sullivan County and Sugar Creek in Vigo County.   Sullivan County gets $40,000 and Vigo $30,000 for design of habitat enhancements for fish and aquatic lifeforms.
