City Council discusses several items Monday

The approval of a transfer of funds in the Board of Works budget was the only business on the agenda at Monday evening’s Washington City Council Meeting.  Councilman Jason Petty gave the Council members a report on changes in Indiana’s annexation codes.  Petty said the changes will make the annexation process longer and more difficult.
In the patron statement section of the meeting a patron asked why the Washington exits on Interstate 69 were unlighted and so poorly marked.   Mayor Wellman said City officials had contacted INDOT with the same question, only to be told that lights and exit signage was “not in the original scope of the project”.     Washington’s Mayor also reminded everyone of this week’s Back to School Bash at East Side Park.

There were only three items on Washington’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.  The Board approved accepting the bid of Plank Brothers of Rosedale foe the South Washington water main replacement project.  David Dahl of Midwestern Engineers told the Board that Plank Brothers’ bid was significantly lower than the second place bid.
The Board also approved two transformer agreements.  The Board also approved an agreement for legal work to recoup funds from previous owners of the old Tokheim property.  This is the mandatory first step in the clean of the Brownfield site.
The Board also heard of economic activity at the old K-Mart building.  A new owner is in the process of dividing the building into three storefronts.
