Wanted suspects lead police on a chase Saturday

Two cousins from Alabama wanted there in connection with a homicide ended up in Montgomery and led police on a high speed chase through parts of Daviess and Martin Counties on Saturday.

It began when local authorities were informed by the Leeds, Alabama Police Department to be on the lookout for a 1998 white Ford Escort with Alabama plates.  It was believed the suspects may be headed to Montgomery in Daviess County.  The two in the vehicle were wanted in connection with a July 5th homicide investigation.

At 1:47-pm on Saturday, a Daviess County Deputy spotted the vehicle at the Viking Mart Gas Station.  The Escort pulled out across US 50 into the Dollar Store parking lot.  The Deputy spoke with the occupants who were told to shut the car vehicle off and put their hands out of the windows.  The vehicle was put into reverse, jumped a curb and fled east on 50 leading police on a 15 minute chase.  Other vehicles were ran off the road in the incident.  It ended when the Escort lost control and wen down an embankment hit some trees east of Shoals.

The two were identified as 26-year-old Cory Lane Zito and 30-year-old Candie Renee Zito.  Both were flown by helicopter from the scene with serious injuries
