Travel on the 4th to be highest in years

AAA Hoosier Motor Club says this July 4th holiday weekend will be the most-traveled ever for Hoosiers. More than one-million Indiana residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday period. Last year, about 993,000 traveled during the holiday weekend.

Nationally, more than 41.9 million Americans will travel. That‘s up from 41.6 during July 4th weekend in 2014. This year will be the highest for nationwide travel since 2007. 85% of travelers will drive. More people are driving and flying this Independence Day.

Also, some 3.2 million Americans will take trains, buses or cruises during the holiday. That‘s also up. Also, gas prices are expected to be their lowest in five years this coming Independence Day.
