Loogootee’s fire rating has changed and not for the better. Mayor Noel Harty says the change is not warranted and could cause fire protection insurance rate increases to local residents.

The Washington Times Herald Reports that the fire rating went from a 6 to a 10.  Ratings are determined by the Insurance Service Office a national non-governmental agency.  The lower the number the better then insurance rates.

In a press release Monday, Mayor Harty says he and Fire Chief Morgan Huebner were notified in May by ISO that the city’s fire rating would be lowered because certain city fire training records had not been received.  The city officials contend the information was sent when requested six months ago.  There was some confusion on when the rating could be changed based on new surveys for the city.   In the meantime the fire rating remains at 10 which may mean an insurance increase.

Mayor Harty has sought help from state and federal legislators to assist in the matter.
