Friends and Colleagues of Knox County Councilman Steve Thais are remembering him as very outgoing and friendly.

Thais died after being struck by a large tree limb while clearing brush from his property. The Knox Coroner’s office ruled his death as accidental.

County Council President Bob Lechner says Thais was very involved in all aspects of the community.

In addition to his work on the county council, Lechner says Thais served as a 4-H instructor. He also was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Knox County League of Women Voters.

Lechner was among those who became concerned about Thais after he failed to respond to phone calls. Lechner notified Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris who led deputies on a search of Thais’ property and eventually located his body in a nearby wooded area.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
