Indiana State Police will once again be taking part in the nationwide Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign which starts Friday and runs through the end of May. Troopers will join more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies, and thousands more across the country, to conduct high-visibility patrols encouraging drivers and passengers to buckle up.

Dave Bursten, Chief Public Information officer for the State Police says wearing a seat belt increases your chance of surviving a crash by more than 50 percent. While police prefer voluntary compliance, Bursten says if troopers see motorists without their seat belt on they can expect to be stopped and just as the slogan says, click it or ticket.

More than 200 troopers will be working overtime to conduct seat belt patrols on Indiana’s roads and interstates. 748 fatalities occurred on Indiana roadways last year. Of those fatalities, Bursten says nearly one-third were unrestrained.

Indiana law enforcement agencies have been actively involved in the Click It or Ticket campaign for over 20 years.
